GET ACTIVE WITH OSTA AND BE A PART OF MAKING IT HAPPEN!

education journey together

Membership matters

Your membership dollars really are important. OSTA doesn’t spend a whole lot of money each year, especially since we voted to, again, have Fall Conference over Zoom, but we, just like any other organization, have bills to pay, and we want to continue to support substitute teachers in every way possible.

OSTA Members have a lot to be proud of, we have persevered through another year of pandemic ups and downs and strengthened our relationships with key people at TSPC: Dr. Rosilez (Executive Director) and in the Legislature we retained some of the same sponsors we had before the election and are swiftly gaining new supporters and sponsors. OSTA members Leslie Polson and Debbie Fery sat on influential committees hosted by Senator Dembrow and their efforts put substitutes on the panel members’ radar in a BIG way! Substitute teachers will now be paid their hourly wage for their seat time when completing their mandatory trainings; that was something that we, before, had to take to our BOLI representative and hope that they ruled in our favor, so what a WIN!

Sadly, that is only a temporary ruling and is suspected to expire next June. It is a step in the right direction, though, for substantiating substitute teaching. In the future, with your membership in OSTA, substitutes could possibly be reimbursed for their professional development trainings as well.

Watch the website to keep apprised of all that is OSTA and, find information about how to get your school debt paid for by getting the correct forms into the right people by the deadline of October 31st, 2022.
